Our most popular billing system for utilities is our RUBS program. The RUBS program is a ratio-based formula that we use to bill our property residents. It works by our staff retrieving a monthly master city bill. We duplicate all of the city fees and charges listed on the master city bill. Then, we would take the information and break it down by unit to get each unit’s costs.

Our formula based billing gives us a price per unit, and we’d bill them accordingly. The most common ways the formula decides on usage is price is by taking the unit square footage, number of fixtures or rooms, and occupant count. Better yet, this is all 100% legal throughout the state of California. There are no excess costs to you start with this system, and we just have everyone sign a simple billing agreement. Each resident would pay a low billing fee each month, and we’d list this on their bill for their utilities.

The second popular option we offer for our clients is a retro fit system. If you choose a retro fit system, we would give every property you have a CA-type approved submeter with a synced wireless system. You would be responsible for sourcing a plumber to install the system. We’ll program and label each each meter to each individual unit so there isn’t any confusion.

You’ll have to have each meter sealed and tested by California’s Weights and Measures government department to keep them legal and stay in compliance with the local laws and regulations. Our staff at Urban Meters would be responsible for ordering all of your meters you need for your submetering system and handling all of the paperwork. Once each meter passes the California Weights and Measures inspections, we’ll assemble the meters and deliver them to your property where your plumber will install them. We do bill and install properties nationwide. Please note, there are some cites outside of California where Weights and Measures would not apply.
